Tristan Tucker is musician and teacher from Athens, Illinois, a small village north of Springfield. In high school, he had opportunities to perform with some of Springfield’s top jazz musicians and began performing with his own jazz combo called Moment’s Notice.
Tristan went on to study Music Education at Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin where he received a Bachelor’s of Music in Instrumental Music Education. While at Lawrence, Tristan studied classical saxophone with one of the instrument’s greatest pedagogues, Steven Jordheim and jazz saxophone with José Encarnación. He also had the opportunity to study saxophone with Sara Kind and Jesse Dochnahl. Tristan performed in Lawrence’s Symphonic Band, Jazz Band, Viking Chorale, multiple jazz combos, and various saxophone ensembles. Through Lawrence’s Jazz program, he had the privilege to perform alongside renowned musicians such as José Encarnación and Alan Ferber. In 2014, Tristan was selected to perform in the Lawrence Commencement Concert.
Also a passionate teacher, Tristan traveled to Haiti 2014 to teach for l’Ecole de Musique Sainte Trinité’s summer music camp in Cange. There he served as both a professor of saxophone and a band director.
